Skoda Superb

The range of engines echoes that offered in all Volkswagen Group product ranges, including the excellent 1.9-litre 105bhp and 2.0-litre 140bhp turbodiesels. All engines from the 2.0-litre unit up offer respectable performance, though the smallest petrol can be a touch unrefined if pushed hard. The extra £1,000 for the 1.8-litre turbo is well worth it. Tiptronic automatics are available, as are five and six-speed manual transmissions, equipment levels across all trim levels being comprehensive - all cars getting air conditioning as standard. Find a winding road and the Superb is unlikely to impress the more demanding driver, but it does everything asked from it, and works well as a refined and capable long distance companion. Spacious, well-equipped and sensibly priced, the Superb really has everything it needs to compete in the family car market. If people see past the badge, they'll be getting a superb car for the money
B6 Superb (2008-present)

Based on the Passat platform, it is a liftback with an innovative tailgate that can double as a regular separate sedan boot and full liftback known as Twin-Door.
Petrol options include five VW-sourced units including an entry-level 125 PS (92 kW; 123 hp) 1.4 L TFSI, a 160 PS (118 kW; 158 hp) 1.8 TFSI, a flagship 3.6 L V6 complete with four-wheel drive and 6-speed DSG gearbox. Diesel options will include 2.0 TDI 140 PS (103 kW; 138 hp) PD, a 2.0 TDI 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp) with common rail and a 1.9 TDI Greenline with reduced fuel consumption.
Gearboxes include 5 and 6 speed manual gearboxes and 6 and 7 speed DSG gearboxes and an option on almost all engine/trim combinations.
Trim levels available in the majority of Europe are the Comfort, Ambition and Elegance, with Elegance being top of the range. In the UK market the levels available are S, SE, Elegance and Greenline.
A five door estate version of the Skoda Superb was presented to the press in June 2009, and is scheduled for a public launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009.
B5 Superb (2001-2008)

The modern Superb is a rebadged VW Passat Lingyu - a Passat with a longer wheelbase that was derived initially for the Chinese market under the name Passat Lingyu and rebadged ultimately under the Skoda brand for the European market. It is available with several petrol and diesel engines. The base model, the Classic, is available with a 1.9 L TDI turbodiesel rated at 74 kW (101 PS), or a 2.0 L straight-4 engine rated at 85 kW (116 PS). The Comfort and Elegance models are offered with a with a 1.8T petrol 119 kW (162 PS) or either a 142 kW (193 PS) V6 2.8 L petrol engine, or a 2.5 L TDI rated at 120 kW (163 PS). Transmissions available are a six-speed manual or five-speed tiptronic. As well as offering Volkswagen's older 1.9 L PD engine, the Superb also uses the new 103 kW (140 PS) 2.0 L TDIs found in other cars of the Volkswagen Group.
The car used the B5 PL45+ platform from 1999 Volkswagen Passat LWB, "long wheelbase" 10 cm longer- from Shangai Automotive-. This car appeared two years before the release of the European Superb and is still available, now updated, as Volkswagen Passat Lingyu.Passat LWB and Passat Lingyu
The Superb was facelifted in 2006 to incorporate Škoda's new grille, headlights and tail lights. A Laurin and Klement model became the top of the range, deposing the Elegance model from that position. A range of new engines was introduced and the interior featured real wood as part of some trim levels. Akin to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, Comfort, Elegance and Laurin & Klement models even have an umbrella secreted in the rear door panel.
Although the Passat upon which it is based competes with the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Peugeot 407, the Superb is marketed as an alternative to the more prestigious likes of the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, though it is actually cheaper than the Passat.
The Superb got minor facelift in August 2006 - a new radiator grille, additional blinkers have been integrated into the vehicle's wing mirrors, the tail lights were C-shaped in style of Roomster and Octavia and interior was redesigned.

Skoda Superb 1.8 Elegance

Everybody, in their life, has at least one experience where they gave something a miss, whether a book, movie or even chatting with someone, simply because its cover wasn't appealing enough.
When was the last time you looked at a book and thought, "Nah, it doesn't look good."? Or even gave it a miss simply because its cover wasn't enticing enough? Be honest now, and I'm pretty sure that there are lots of us who do that. And it's not just with books. Very often, the not-so-aesthetically blessed in society get less attention and smiles than those with potential models features, and it's also them who usually have the privilege of picking the best from the basket. Basically, if the general impression people have of you is a positive one, you'd likely get on with life a little easier. Which wasn't the case for Skoda, at least until recently. In fact, tour guides in neighbouring Bratislava commonly joked that if you wanted to double the car's value
, all you needed was to "fill up the gas tank!" There were some serious image problems and it was only during this decade when things start to look brighter. In Singapore, few would even consider buying a Skoda. But right now, there is a very, very good reason to get one. For one, at its price of S$104,800 (it was an even more attractive S$99,800 when first launched), the "Simply Superb 1.8T", also known as the Skoda Superb 1.8T Elegance, has made a very bold and confident entrance into the executive sedan territory. Fitted with the same 1.8 turbocharged inline-four engine found in the Volkswagen and mated to the German group's latest seven-speed DSG tranny, it has a very competent powertrain.
